There’s a lot of exciting stuff happening in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Whether you’re most excited about The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy on the big screen or Netflix’s Defenders offerings, there’s one thing for sure: Marvel games and online entertainment is hot right now. There’s so much to do and play. Take online marvel games and online slots for example, and even a Marvel free-to-play MMO. Online games and slots are popular and addictive for an obvious reason: they’re fun. Combining slots with Marvel characters adds even more excitement, and with Netflix’s new introductions to lesser known heroes with their Defenders lineup it’s like a whole new Universe.
I’ll admit I was a little wary when I first encountered Daredevil in my Top Picks queue on Netflix. Daredevil, a lawyer that fights for the downtrodden in the justice system by day and in the streets by night, just didn’t seem to translate to screen in my opinion, but I had to remind myself I was basing that entirely on the 2003 film starring Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner and that’s just not fair. While the movie isn’t absolutely terrible – Michael Clarke Duncan as Fisk, or really MCD in any role, made me very happy – it wasn’t good and I wasn’t going to watch an entire season of not-good-Daredevil. For me it’s easier to just not start than try to wrestle with my completist nature and stop watching midseason.
So I didn’t watch Daredevil when it first came out, but I did binge Jessica Jones literally the second it dropped and I was really excited to see Mike Colter as Luke Cage, who has his own series premiering later this fall. There’s also the The Defender series that’s upcoming, and it was recently announced that The Defenders and Jessica Jones season 2 will be filming back-to-back, so here’s hoping for an early 2017 release for them! After being impressed by Netflix’s treatment of Jessica Jones and getting excited about Luke Cage’s series and The Defenders I realized I had to give Daredevil a shot, and I’m so glad I did. It’s perfectly cast, really well written, and has been a great starting point for many of the MCU shows on Netflix, including The Punisher. Daredevil‘s season two introduced us to Jon Bernthal as the leather-clad, gun-toting, will-kill-a-bad-guy-dead vigilante. I wasn’t sure I could ever love a Punisher not played by Thomas Jane but Bernthal plays Punisher’s intensity really well, and now he’s getting his own series as well.
Netflix’s lineup for The Defenders is not what classic Marvel fans might have expected, but key members in the comics, like Doctor Strange and The Hulk, are already on the big screen, so it’s nice to see the heroes who may not save the world but can definitely save Hell’s Kitchen get a spot in the limelight. I’ve always thought that characters like The Punisher and Jessica Jones need more than a two hour movie anyways, so an entire series is great news not just for elevating their popularity but also for allowing us to explore these very layered characters.
